Refugee Education Trust — Protecting through Education
Rebel incursions and cross-border fighting from both countries were a constant risk for the refugees, and they often had to relocate to different camps to avoid the violence. In Kountaya camp, the RET provided infrastructural assistance in the form of the construction of classrooms and the provision of school materials. In addition, the recruitment and monitoring of teachers, training in vocational skills (such as baking, soap-making, hairdressing and sewing), and psycho-social support for both local and refugee youth was provided, to contribute to their well-being and cognitive and social development through helping them deal with their present situation and by preparing them for their futures upon their return to their home countries.
