Capacity Building in Action: Training of Trainers in Türkiye
Since January 2023, RET in Türkiye has been promoting communication and understanding between refugee and the host community members throughout the “Turkish and English Language Learning Program as a Tool for Empowerment and Social Cohesion” project.
Language is a fundamental tool for empowerment and helps foster social cohesion amongst disparate groups. Recognizing the importance of this program, RET has worked to boost the capacity of its language trainers. As part of this project, in partnership with Liechtenstein Languages (LIELA) we organized a two-week-long “Training of Trainers” (ToT) program in Şanlıurfa, Türkiye, aimed at equipping language trainers with essential skills to bridge language barriers and foster social integration.
Language is a fundamental tool for empowerment and helps foster social cohesion amongst disparate groups.

The “Training of Trainers” program immersed the language trainers in the real-life context of language courses with actual participants. In the morning session, the trainers delivered lessons to the participants, putting theory into practice. The afternoon session allowed the trainers to reflect on their teaching methods, providing a valuable opportunity to develop their skills further through feedback from LIELA trainers and their peers.
By investing in the capacity-building of language trainers, RET aims to create a more inclusive and harmonious society where communication and understanding prevail.
By the end of the ToT program, the language trainers had acquired and honed a range of essential skills that will be invaluable to them in their mission to empower refugee and host community members and foster social cohesion. These skills include:
Modeling Good Teaching Practices: Trainers are now well-equipped to exemplify excellent teaching practices following the Liechtenstein Languages (LieLa) method, a proven approach to language instruction.
Coaching Future Facilitators: They can also now coach future facilitators in preparing and delivering individual teaching activities and completing learning units effectively.
Providing Constructive Feedback: Language trainers are now capable of offering constructive feedback to future facilitators, aiding them in delivering and implementing lessons more efficiently.
Conducting Microteaching: They can arrange microteaching sessions and act as moderators, creating a safe and supportive environment for learning and practice.

In recognition of their dedication and successful completion of the training program, the language trainers received a Trainer Certificate from Liechtenstein Languages, cementing their commitment to excellence in language education and social integration.
This training signifies a crucial step in breaking down language barriers, promoting social cohesion, and empowering refugees and the host community in Türkiye. By investing in the capacity-building of language trainers, RET aims to create a more inclusive and harmonious society where communication and understanding prevail.
