GOMA, DRC – In October, RET Germany in DRC had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Jenny Schultz, head of the Division G22 – Crisis Management, Transitional Assistance, and Reconstruction at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), for a visit to see the progress and impact of our work firsthand.

During Ms. Schultz’s visit, RET had the opportunity to present our BMZ-funded project (2021-2025), which focuses on improving food security, nutrition, and peaceful coexistence in conflict-affected communities in eastern DRC. Ms. Schultz engaged with two Focal Points and three beneficiaries, who shared moving testimonies about the positive impact of the project on their communities. Her thoughtful questions reflected her genuine interest in our work and the progress we’ve made together.

We were also joined by our partners ACPEJ, FDAPID, and PAP-RDC who shared their insights and experiences regarding the collaborative efforts that are essential to the project’s success.

Want to learn more about the impact this project is having in DRC? We spoke to Evelyne, in Ituri province, to hear how it’s helped change her life.

This project, active in North Kivu and Ituri provinces on the eastern side of the country, directly supports 6,200 individuals and indirectly benefits an additional 43,650. Our key targets include demobilized youth, women heads of households, Batwa communities, and people with disabilities. We focus on food security, nutrition, social cohesion, and psycho-social support to help strengthen community resilience and promote lasting peace.

Ms. Schultz’s visit was very interactive and inspiring. We are deeply grateful for BMZ’s ongoing support and commitment to creating a meaningful impact in the region. It was made clear that together, we will continue to promote stability and improve the lives of those affected by conflict.
