GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – It is with profound sadness that RET International announces the passing of Jean-Claude Peterschmitt, a visionary leader and cherished member of our Board of Directors. Jean-Claude’s exceptional career and enduring commitment to empowering vulnerable populations, particularly women, youth, and girls, left an indelible mark on our organization and the communities we serve.

Born with an innate curiosity and drive, Jean-Claude earned an engineering degree from the prestigious Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (Zurich) and an M.S. from the MIT Sloan School of Business. His professional journey began at Arthur D. Little’s European Operations Research Group and later flourished at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). From 1967 to 1988, he played a pivotal role in the expansion of DEC’s European operations, ultimately serving as Vice President-Europe and Chairman of the European Board of Directors. Jean-Claude’s strategic acumen and leadership facilitated the growth of European technology markets, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to innovation and progress.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Jean-Claude was a tireless advocate for social good. As a founding member of Le Réseau, he fostered high-technology enterprises in Western Switzerland, and through Health on the Net, he championed equitable access to medical and health information. His belief in the transformative power of knowledge and connectivity resonated deeply with RET’s mission to empower vulnerable communities through education, protection, and self-reliance.

Jean-Claude’s association with RET began in 2001 as a Board Member, and in 2003, he took on the role of Chairman. Under his leadership, RET expanded its reach and impact, addressing critical challenges faced by marginalized populations in crisis-affected regions. His unequivocal support of RET’s strategic vision and plans, and his unwavering dedication, helped usher in pivotal years of growth. Even after stepping down as Chairman in 2007, Jean-Claude remained an active and invaluable member of the Board, contributing his wisdom and insights to our mission of creating lasting change.

As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary legacy he leaves behind: Jean-Claude’s life was a testament to the power of dedication and belief in a better world. His contributions will continue to inspire and guide us as we carry forward RET’s mission to empower communities and transform lives. Jean-Claude’s passing is a profound loss for the RET family and the countless lives he touched through his leadership and vision. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jean-Claude. Your legacy will forever live on in the work we do and the lives we touch.
