AKKAR, LEBANON – Under a BMZ-funded project implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon, municipal police officers across Akkar Governorate are getting new uniforms and boots to help them serve their communities safely and effectively.

Municipal police officers are often the first point of contact between local authorities and residents — responsible for maintaining order, supporting community safety, and helping municipalities function effectively. But carrying out these duties safely requires the right gear and equipment; and that’s exactly the gap this initiative is closing.

As part of the project “Improving Food Security, Livelihoods, and the Inclusion of Women and Vulnerable Groups, while Promoting Gender Equality in Northern Lebanon,” GATE Lebanon, RET Germany’s local implementing partner, distributed police uniforms and boots during June and July 2026 to 183 municipal police officers across seven Unions of Municipalities in Akkar Governorate.

This support helps enhance the safety and preparedness of municipal police officers, while strengthening the capacity of municipalities to deliver better services to their communities and improve the effectiveness of municipal governance across Akkar.

The project “Improving Food Security, Livelihoods, and the Inclusion of Women and Vulnerable Groups, and Promoting Gender Equality in North Lebanon,” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) and implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon.
