AKKAR, LEBANON – Throughout August, GATE Lebanon’s agricultural engineering team continued technical field visits across Akkar to support farmers through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) demonstration plots. The visits are part of a BMZ-funded project implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon.
During the visits, the team monitored olive, citrus and alfalfa crops using pest monitoring and mass-trapping systems. The engineers also gave farmers timely technical recommendations to protect their crops and improve production.
These field activities promote sustainable farming practices, reduce crop losses and strengthen farmers’ resilience.

The visits sit alongside a wider set of activities by RET Germany and GATE Lebanon in Akkar this year, from equipping eight local associations and cooperatives with solar energy systems to vocational training for women in mosaic art and, most recently, data entry and digital skills. Together, they reflect a broader effort in North Lebanon to support livelihoods with practical, hands-on skills and tools.
The project “Improving Food Security, Livelihoods, and the Inclusion of Women and Vulnerable Groups, and Promoting Gender Equality in North Lebanon,” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) and implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon.
