RET Germany & GATE Lebanon Ink Deal to Boost Civil Defense Firefighting Capacity in Akkar

AKKAR, LEBANON – Under a BMZ-funded project implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon, a delegation from RET Germany and GATE Lebanon met with the Director General of the Lebanese Civil Defense, general Imad Khreich, to discuss avenues for cooperation and coordination aimed at supporting Civil Defense centers in Akkar Governorate and strengthening their firefighting capacities.
The delegation included Eng. Ayman Abdallah representing RET Germany, Ms. Lina Zein representing GATE Lebanon, and Communication Officer Ms. Carine Harouny.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to provide specialized firefighting tools and supplies to Civil Defense centers in Akkar contributing to enhanced preparedness, improved emergency response capabilities, and greater protection for local communities. Discussions also focused on the coordination mechanisms required to ensure the effective implementation of this & other initiatives and maximize impact across the region.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships among stakeholders, in a manner that supports humanitarian action and contributes to the improvement of services provided to citizens, particularly in areas most vulnerable to environmental hazards and wildfires.
The project “Improving Food Security, Livelihoods, and the Inclusion of Women and Vulnerable Groups, and Promoting Gender Equality in North Lebanon,” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) and implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon.
