AKKAR, LEBANON – Under a BMZ-funded project implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon, GATE Lebanon’s agricultural engineers installed a range of insect traps in demonstration alfalfa fields in the Wadi Khaled area to monitor pests and assess their infestation levels.
The installed traps included yellow sticky traps for monitoring Aphids, blue sticky traps for monitoring Thrips, yellow sticky ribbons for the general monitoring of flying insects, and Delta traps baited with species-specific pheromones to monitor Spodoptera.

These practices contribute to the early detection of pests, support the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), minimize the use of pesticides and other chemical inputs, decrease pesticide residues in crops, thereby improving crop productivity, reduce production costs and enhancing food security for beneficiary farmers.
The project “Improving Food Security, Livelihoods, and the Inclusion of Women and Vulnerable Groups, and Promoting Gender Equality in North Lebanon,” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) and implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon.
