AKKAR, LEBANON – As part of a BMZ-funded project implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon, a series of training sessions and hands-on exercises in mosaic art gave participants a practical, interactive learning environment to explore new artistic techniques and build fine arts skills they can put to work.
Beyond the craft itself, the sessions were designed to open up income opportunities and build self-confidence among participants, many of whom are approaching the work as a potential source of livelihood rather than only a creative outlet.

This kind of training sits alongside a wider push by RET Germany and GATE Lebanon to expand what’s available to women and youth in Akkar this year. Just this month, the two organizations equipped eight local associations and cooperatives across Akkar with solar energy systems, helping them stay productive through the region’s ongoing power cuts.
And in Dawra, Akkar, GATE Lebanon partnered with the National Education Scouts to run awareness sessions for 46 young campers on bullying, digital safety, and protection. Taken together, this mosaic training is one more piece of a broader effort in North Lebanon to pair practical skills with the support that helps people actually use them.
The project “Improving Food Security, Livelihoods, and the Inclusion of Women and Vulnerable Groups, and Promoting Gender Equality in North Lebanon,” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) and implemented by RET Germany in partnership with GATE Lebanon.
