GOMA, D.R. CONGO – In early October 2026, 45 participants from four organizations gathered for an internal workshop to prepare a new multi-purpose cash assistance project in North Kivu province. The two-day meeting marked the start of the project’s implementation phase.
The project is led by a consortium of RACOJ North Kivu, RET Germany, HOLD RD Congo and APC, with funding from the Humanitarian Fund for D.R. Congo. It will provide assistance to the most vulnerable people in the health zones of Goma, Karisimbi and Kirotshe, in a context marked by population displacement and growing humanitarian needs.
Why a shared start matters
A consortium works best when every team understands the plan in the same way. The workshop was organized to build that shared understanding and to help each partner take ownership of the implementation strategy. Operational teams from the four organizations compared perspectives and harmonized their approaches, in line with humanitarian coordination partners including OCHA and the Humanitarian Fund.

What the teams covered
Over the two days, participants heard presentations on the plans and reference tools that will guide the response. Topics included operational planning, monitoring and evaluation, financial and logistics management, and coordination within the consortium.
Sessions also addressed protection, the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, communication, and accountability to communities. These topics reflect a commitment RET Germany reaffirmed at the workshop: humanitarian assistance that is coordinated, transparent and respectful of the dignity of the people it serves.

Part of a longer commitment in D.R. Congo
RET has worked in D.R. Congo since 2012. By the end of 2023, it had directly supported more than 55,765 participants through 19 projects. In 2025, RET Germany completed a four-year, BMZ-funded resilience project in North Kivu, leaving behind agricultural cooperatives and Village Peace Committees.
The needs remain large. Around 7 million people were internally displaced in D.R. Congo in 2025, about 200,000 more than the year before. Cash assistance is one way RET and its partners are responding, alongside long-standing work in education, protection and livelihoods.
This project “Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance to the Most Vulnerable People in the Health Zones of Goma, Karisimbi and Kirotshe in North Kivu Province” is made possible with generous support from the Humanitarian Fund for D.R. Congo and is being implemented by a consortium of RACOJ North Kivu, RET Germany, HOLD RD Congo and APC in D.R. Congo.
